Advantages of Local 24 Membership
IBEW Local 24 members benefit greatly from collective bargaining through the union, which puts assurances in place that provide members with the opportunities to have fulfilling lives, rewarding careers and stable retirements. Local 24 has the programs in place to ensure that our members are taken care of during their careers and afterwards, so they can work, live and retire with dignity and security.
In fact, union workers like those in Local 24 are more likely than their nonunion counterparts to receive higher wages and benefits such as health care and pensions, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Wages
Local 24 electricians earn some of the very best wages in the industry due to a signed contract with area employers. This agreement also comes with many other benefits, including 8-hour scheduled workdays, overtime and double-time pay.
Collective Bargaining
Local 24 collectively bargains with employers to make certain that our members have better working conditions than their non-union counterparts. Union members are more satisfied and more productive at their jobs because they receive better pay, have better benefits, work under safer conditions, and have access to fair grievance procedures.
Healthcare
Local 24 negotiates comprehensive healthcare benefits for members and their families, including dental and vision coverage. These benefits are provided by the union employer through the Local 24 Health Fund, with no payroll deduction from members.
Pensions and Annuity
Local 24 member electricians enjoy three pension plans. Two of these plans are considered “defined benefit” pension plans, so our members receive retirement benefits throughout their entire lives, rather than until a balance is depleted like in traditional 401(k) retirement plans. All three plans allow for cause of your spouse upon your passing.
In addition to these three pensions, members also have the benefit of a “defined contribution” annuity fund, which is money contributed by union employers to individual accounts set up for retirement. Each member determines how their annuity money is invested within the plan, and the money accumulates tax-free until retirement, when the member elects how to have their benefits paid.
Workforce Training
Through our Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (J.A.T.C.), our apprentices, member electricians and technicians receive the best skills, upgrade and safety training available anywhere. Whether it is our apprenticeship program, construction electrician upgrade or journeyman classes, our training is unparalleled in the industry and is conducted in a state-of-the-art training facility, allowing us to answer the high demand for skilled electrical workers.
