IBEW Founders’ Scholarship Is For Working Members Looking To Advance Their Education

The IBEW Founders’ Scholarship honors the dedicated wiremen and linemen who, on November 28, 1891, organized the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Each year the officers of the IBEW are pleased to offer its working members scholarships on a competitive basis. It is hoped that the awards will not only contribute to the personal development of our members but also steward the electrical industry that our founders envisioned.

The award is for $200 per semester credit hour at any accredited college or university toward an associate’s, bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in an approved field. The maximum distribution is $24,000 per person over a period not to exceed eight years. Scholarship application deadline is Thursday, May 1, 2025.

All IBEW members who have been in continuous good standing for four years preceding May 1 of the scholarship year in which they plan to apply are eligible for the IBEW Founders’ Scholarship.

Apprenticeship Class Tops Out!

Local 24 proudly welcomed 50 members to their new status of Journeyman Wireman, at the apprenticeship graduation ceremony held on July 14, 2017.

After five demanding years of on-the-job training and classroom instruction, the following members have “topped out”. We extend our very best wishes to all for rewarding careers!

Several of the graduates were also recognized for their excellence in grades and attendance. Awards for highest total grades went to Timothy Paul Bouthner in the Baltimore program, and Stuart Benton Molnar in the Eastern Shore program. Perfect attendance awards were earned by Timothy Paul Bouthner, James Michael Chwirut and Edward Scott Heagy.

The Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee for the Maryland Electrical Industry is sponsored by IBEW Local 24 and the Maryland Chapter of the National Association of Electrical Contractors.

Scholarship Winners Selected

Congratulations to the 10 individuals who were selected as recipients of the first-ever scholarships awarded by the Local 24 Scholarship Fund!

The winners were randomly drawn from among 45 eligible applicants during the union meeting held on September 22, 2015. Each will receive a $1000 scholarship. Listed below are the winners and their schools:
