Earn EVITP Certification Through The Baltimore Electrical JATC At Substantial Savings

Posted on July 25, 2022 by Maggie Young

The Baltimore Electrical JATC is offering the Electrical Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program (EVITP), a 20-hour course for journey-level electricians to get trained and certified to build the United States’ electric vehicle charging system. At a cost of only $85, this option offers significant savings as compared to the course offered on the EVITP website for $275. The Baltimore Electrical JATC certification class is open to any Local 24 JW member who is currently working for a contributing employer, or has been laid off by a contributing employer in the last 12 months. For more information or to enroll, contact the JATC at 410 247-3313.

In a recent letter to business managers, IBEW International President Lonnie R. Stephenson said, “EVITP is a nationally recognized training standard for installing electric vehicle supply equipment, and the federal government is expected to require the training, which it considers essential to the safe long-term operation and maintenance of the electric vehicle charging infrastructure. This advanced skill program builds on the platform of qualified electricians’ extensive knowledge, skills and experience, so EVITP certification is easily accomplished for many IBEW journey-level workers, requiring a short, 20-hour course, available in person at IBEW training centers and online.”

RENEW Cornhole Tournament

Posted on October 1, 2018 by Maggie Young

Little bags of corn were flying across the blacktop at 2701 W. Patapsco Avenue on a recent weekend, as Local 24’s RENEW committee hosted its 1st Annual Cornhole Tournament on the afternoon of Saturday, September 22, 2018. The event drew 12 teams of fierce competitors along with lots of interested spectators.

THE VICTORS! (from left) Runners-Up Joe Doty and Nick Lynne, Jeff our friendly Milwaukee Tool rep, and Tournament Champs Ray Gregory and Dennis Barnhardt.

When the tossing was done, the team of Dennis Barnhardt and Ray Gregory were at the top of the leader board and claimed the victory. They were rewarded with a cash prize of 50% of the entry fees (the other 50% went to event expenses and the RENEW treasury) and 2 quality laptop backpacks donated by the fine folks at Milwaukee Tools.

Hard on their heels was the runner-up team, Joe Doty and Nick Lynne. Their prize was 2 sets of vehicle floormats, also provided by Milwaukee Tools. Every entrant got a Milwaukee Tools swag bag, as well as plenty of burgers and dogs and a good time.

RENEW is an organization specifically focused on our members who are age 35 and under. The mission of the Reach out and Engage Next-gen Electrical Workers (RENEW) initiative is to inspire the next generation of IBEW workers to become active in their local union by focusing on issues important to younger workers, providing education about the IBEW and the labor movement, and fostering relationships with members and local union leadership.

Local 24’s RENEW committee meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month, the same day as the regular membership meeting. RENEW meets at 5 pm and the membership meeting is at 7 pm. The next planned RENEW activity is a community service project in honor of Veteran’s Day. Members will be working with a veterans’ charity organization for that event. To get more details, follow Ibew Renew Baltimore on Facebook.

Posted on January 26, 2015 by IBEW 24

local24_peaceofmindPeace of mind: how much is it worth to you?

That is the overall message of IBEW Local 24’s new promotional video which focuses on our apprenticeship and workplace standards. Local 24 prides itself on being the best-trained and most-qualified workforce in the Baltimore area and the entire Eastern Shore in order to allow area contractors to have nothing but the utmost confidence in the workforce we supply them.

“The bar is set pretty high when we employ both journeymen and apprentices,” says Bill Malstrom, executive vice president of Malstrom Electric, “because we know Local 24 and the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee set very high standards for its apprentices.”
Work that is done right, on-time and on-budget…that’s the IBEW Local 24 way. View our latest video for yourself below and learn more about our training opportunities here.
